Editor's UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller Review:
At only 11 lbs the G-Luxe stroller is the lightest full-size umbrella with recline in the USA. This is big news for anyone on the go, who doesn't want to sacrifice functionality for weight.
First off, the fact that the UPPAbaby G-Luxe has 4 wheel suspension is unheard of in this weight category. The active suspension does a great job at taking the edge off of uneven terrain in urban settings, but don't expect to take it out on hiking trails. 4 wheel suspension can be found on other full size umbrella strollers like the Maclaren Techno XT and Techno XLR. Like most strollers in the class, the 5.5 inch diameter wheels are constructed from solid rubber, so no need to fill air tires or deal with flats.
Frame design is solid and should handle all your requirements until your child hits the 40lb mark. Based on size and the lack of infant car seat adapter, the G-Luxe can only be used from 3months on. Capacity is a little lower than the Maclaren's due to a lighter frame. Handles on the G-Luxe are elevated and should provide plenty range in height of potential users, including tall ones. Taller users will also appreciate the elevated rear frame which should help prevent toe-stubs. Storage is ample but not huge.
The seat is constructed from a tough nylon, which should resist wear and tear as well as stains. The seat itself reclines from upright to 120 degrees, but doesn't lie flat. Most umbrellas stroller don't lie flat. Some of the higher end Maclarens have an adjustable leg rest to accommodate growing children, the G-Luxe doesn't. If you're looking for this functionality you will want to take a look at some all terrain strollers.
The folding mechanism on some umbrella strollers can be cumbersome, requiring the use of multiple levers and foot action prior to fold. All this can be difficult with child and bags in hand. The G-Luxe features an innovative system requiring only the pull of two of hand-level folding triggers to fold, no foot action required. Even though this is huge step forward, pulling two levers while holding a child is still somewhat difficult, but at least UPPAbaby is heading in the right direction.
Once folded, the UPPAbaby G-Luxe free stands on it wheels, which means no more laying your stroller on the filthy ground when not in use. Not many umbrella strollers can do this. The G-Luxe also boasts a carrying strap for easy transport.
Buy this stroller in you intend to use on smooth surfaces and especially if you plan on doing a lot of travel. Due to its size and compact, one piece fold the G-Luxe's design lends itself to easy transport. As far as Umbrella strollers in this class and weight range, the UPPAbaby G-Luxe is a top contender.
