Editor's Phil & Teds Sub4 Stroller Review:
Phil & Teds hopes to change the jogging stroller landscape with the introduction of the Phil & Teds Sub4. This has to be the slickest jogging stroller in development, promising to integrate a bunch of road bike technology in it's design. First off, the road bike like tires are thin, for decreased rolling resistance. At first glance, the frame and seating arrangement are the most drastic differences in the Sub4's design.
The frame has three main leg's, each supporting one of three wheels. It also appears that wheels are coupled with mini-disc brake technology for ultimate stopping power. Instead of the stardard Phil & Teds suspended nylon seat basket and new sold construction seat chassis is integrated clips directly to the frame. Padding will come from Phil & Teds aerocore technology, which claims to replicate shock absorbing features found in high end running shoes. Aerocore is also touted as being waterproof and breathable, which means you can just hose it off after a hard workout, talk about easy maintenance!
As with most Jogging strollers weight reduction is a major design consideration and the Phil & Ted's Sub4 frame seems to be of a very simple design, reducing materials used. It also appears that he frame is constructed from oversized aluminum tubing, which also helps reduce overall weight, leading to quick rides and less strain for the parent pushing. The Sub4's unique design pushed the rear wheels very far in front of the handles. This gap allows runners, particularly tall runners, avoid kicking the back of the stroller upon full stride.
The Phil & Teds Sub4 fills a long time void in their product lineup and hopes to make the manufacturer more competitive against BOB Gear and Baby Jogger in the jogging stroller marketplace. While the standard Phil & Teds sport models are great all around strollers, they where a compromise of many different functions and features. The Phil and Teds Sub4 is a fixed-front wheel pure bred jogging stroller and definite option to consider if you're a serious runner.
