Jogging Strollers Category Overview:
There tends to be a lot of confusion around the jogging stroller category. Jogging strollers by definition are used for active parents who wish to put down serious miles on the road with their little one. When they first came out, jogging strollers were single application items and only offered fixed front wheels. While they were great for running, they were a complete nightmare for navigating tight quarters. Over the last few years, manufactures have realized the need for a dual purpose stroller and have built Jogging strollers with front wheels that can either be locked on in swivel mode. While most of these adapted jogging strollers can be used for both running and running errands, they tend to be a bit of a compromise for real serious runners. Most true jogging strollers only have 3 wheels. Here are some things you will want to consider when purchasing a jogging stroller:
For the serious Runner: If you plan to run 4+ miles at least 3 times per week, you'll want to check out jogging strollers with large wheels, generally above 16 inches. If you plan to run on uneven surfaces, you may want to consider suspension and wider diameter tires with knobby tread. If you plan on running primarily on the road, choose a jogging stroller with narrow tires and a smoother tread. This will provide less rolling resistance during your trip. You'll want consider the: BOB SUS D'Lux and BOB SUS Strollers.
For the Jogger: A jogger is differs from a runner by the fact that they cover less distance in a given week and at a slower pace. While strollers in this category could be used for serious running, most parents will use these strollers for the occasional run and also running errands around town. For this reason, strollers in this category will most likely have wheels that can either lock in the forward position or can be positioned in swivel mode for navigating tight turns.
