Editor's Bugaboo Frog Review:
The Bugaboo Frog boast many of the same features as the Bugaboo Cameleon but comes in at a lower price point as well as lower weight, at only 19lbs! The actual model sits between the Bugaboo Cameleon & the Bugaboo Bee. The Frog has all the panache of the Cameleon and to the untrained eye, looks exactly alike. Choose the frog if you don't require height adjustable handlebars or the Aerosleep-brand mattress. The Aerosleep mattress is a brand of crib mattresses that is also available in the Bugaboo Cameleon, but not the Frog. In our opinion, we couldn't feel much of a difference between the two mattresses.
Parents will appreciate the Frog's reversible seat, allowing you to position your child facing forward or towards you. Generally, most parents will choose to have their child facing them in the early months and then allow them to look out as their eyesight develops after 3 months of age. The handlebar is also reversible allowing you to choose which wheels take the lead. For Urban, smooth surface strolling, you'll most likely want to position smaller 6 inch wheel's to the front. If you choose to stroll over uneven terrain, you can flip the handlebar to position the larger 12 inch wheels in front for easier navigation. When tested in this configuration, the Bugaboo Frog performed very well over sand and snow. Unlike many stroller wheels on the market like Phil & Teds and BOB Strollers, the Bugaboo wheels aren't filled with air. They are filled with foam, which promises to eliminate flat tire issues and drastically reducing need for maintenance.
The smaller 6 inch wheels offer suspension and do a great job of absorbing small bumps. If you plan to do a lot of off-roading with your stroller, check out the BOB Revolution which offers 3 inch suspension for very smooth transport over rough terrain. Brakes on the Bugaboo frog are hand activated by a lever located on the handlebar.
For baby's newborn to 40 pounds, or generally from 0-4 yrs. Washable fabric, can take off the fabric wash and easily put back on. This fabric was tested and won't shrink. Both bassinet and seat tilt and are adjustable. There are three positions. It is recommended to only use the bassinet in the flat horizontal position. The Frog's seat can be used in flat (lying down) position, tilted back to reclining, or sitting up fully. I like the reclining position best so my baby can still see things around him, but am also able to fall asleep. Included extras are good - large sun shade and mosquito netting, instructional DVD, etc. There is also a maintenance kit to keep it running smoothly. The Bugaboo Frogs unique 3-in-1 design adapts to car seats, reversible bassinet and reversible seat. An extra accessory will also allow you to adapt your Bugaboo to accommodate your infant car seat.
The Bugaboo Frog travels well, especially given the weight. Keep in mind that this isn't a jogging stroller and shouldn't be used for running activities. One of the other drawbacks of the Bugaboo Frog is the fact that it only accommodates 1 passenger. If you're looking to carry more than one child, take a look at the Phil & Teds or other doubles. The Bugaboo Frog is a functional and great looking everyday stroller which grows with your child's needs. Considering you can use this stroller for your child for at least the first 4 years of their life, it's a great investment.
