Editor's Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller Review:

The Bugaboo Cameleon stroller is a real head turner and Bugaboo's flagship stroller. Pushed around by the Rich and Famous, this stroller definitely has a certain level of panache. Everyone will recognize it and admire it. For base colors you can choose from: Dark Gray, Bright Blue, Red, or Sand. For Tailored fabrics choose one OR MORE of the following: Black, Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, Red, Sand or Yellow. Color combinations are constantly changing. The beauty of this stroller is mixing and matching to your VERY OWN taste. At $99 for the tailored fabric (Like Denim), purchase more than one and mix and match to you discretion, and then, if you are having a plain day, and don't need your hood, just go with the solid base color only. It's very customizable. The Bugaboo Cameleon is one of the most expensive strollers on the market, a step above the Bugaboo Frog. You must realize that the added cost affords you a well designed stroller weighing in at only 20lbs, one of the lightest in its class.

From newborns to children weighing 40 pounds, or generally from 0-4 yrs. Washable fabric, can take off the fabric wash and easily put back on. This fabric was tested and won't shrink. Both bassinet and seat tilt and are adjustable. There are three positions. It is recommended to only use the bassinet in the flat horizontal position. The seat can be used in flat (lying down) position, tilted back to reclining, or sitting up fully. I like the reclining position best so my baby can still see things around him, but is also able to fall asleep. Included extras are good - large sun shade and mosquito netting, instructional DVD, etc. There is also a maintenance kit to keep it running smoothly. The Bugaboo Cameleon's unique 3-in-1 design adapts to car seats, reversible bassinet and reversible seat.

Wheels:
The Bugaboo Cameleon offers very functional front suspension. This became a well enjoyed luxury when the terrain became uneven or even bumpy. In the typical setup, this stroller has larger wheels located in the rear and smaller ones in the front. The smaller ones offer suspension and thus make sense to be positioned towards the front to absorb initial impact. You do have the option to reverse the wheel configuration by flipping the handle bar to the other side. This allows you have the larger wheels up front, which you'll want to do when going over rougher terrain like gravel sand or snow, the bugaboo stroller will have a better chance of steering straight if you do this and the conversion can be done in seconds. It's important to note that the larger wheel's are in a locked position while the smaller ones pivot to allow superior maneuverability in tight spaces. Bugaboo also offers snow tires you can use in place of the stock tires, for an additional fee. These are great for both snow and sand and swap out very easily.

Brakes:
Brake system is turned on/off using a lever located in the handle. Under testing the brake system functioned well under varying loads and hill sizes.

Storage:
As parent's, we all realize the importance of storage. You'll appreciate the large under stroller compartment that the bugaboo offers. You're contents are protected from loss via a pull string closing top. You'll appreciate this feature when traveling over uneven terrain.

Foldability:
For such a well designed stroller, foldability is not as easy as one might think. The problem stems from the fact that there are two main components. You have the frame and then the seat or bassinet. You must first remove the bassinet and then collapse the frame in three additional steps. You can also remove the wheels with ease to get the stroller even flatter. This may be necessary if you're driving a smaller vehicle. If you drive a larger vehicle you can avoid many of these steps by just doing a partial collapse and leaving the seat in place. This will be quicker options, but will result in the Bugaboo taking up more space. Once you break down the stroller, you are left with two pieces; the frame and the seat. If you do a lot of air travel, you'll understand the disadvantages of having 2 pieces as opposed to one joined unit. Hopefully both parts make it to your final destination.

Adjustable Handle - Has been tested to accommodate users up to 6'5" in height, if you're tall, you'll really appreciated this feature. The length from top of handle bar to the first set of wheels is a significant distance and makes it really accommodating for taller users with a long average stride. Should leave plenty of room for clearance and comfort.

Handle bar is reversible so that you can push baby facing forward or backwards. This is also supposed to be an extra feature of being able to navigate over sand and snow. I have had the opportunity to try both of these out and while the adjusting the handle so that the big wheels are in front is good for pushing over these varied terrains, it is not good for navigation. The smaller wheels swivel for turning while the larger wheels do not turn. Having the turning wheels in back doesn't really help with navigation.

Considering you'll be taking this stroller everywhere you go, you'll definitely appreciate the Bugaboos weight. At 20lbs this is one of the lightest fully featured strollers on the market. Moms and dads with large SUV of high trunks will really like this. The frame is made out of air craft grade aluminum and will hold up well to daily abuse.

We've been keeping an eye on the used Bugaboo Strollers hitting eBay, and even strollers that are 3+ years old are looking like new. We've also noticed that used Bugaboos retain a majority of their resale value. Think of this purchase as an investment and bank on the fact that you can probably still sell it on eBay after you're done with it.
