Editor's Baby Jogger Performance 20" Single Stroller Review:
A pure jogging stroller at heart, the 20" Single stroller is the perfect machine for active parents who plan to run 4+ miles, 3 times a week or more at a 6-8 minutes/mile pace. It's one of the best strollers if you plan to put down these kinds of miles. The Baby Jogger Performance 20" is most frequently compared to the BOB Ironman jogging stroller.
The original design was created back in 1984 and has evolved since, using supper high-end materials like aircraft grade aluminum and stainless steel. Use of aluminum keeps the weight down and smart one-piece design keeps it rigid for the long haul. Many consider it to be the one of the most stable, solid and straight tracking stroller ever produced.
It has some real standout features like a hand activated V-Brake with solid stopping power and the ability to brake the stroller without causing the Performance 20" to sway to either side. The large diameter wheels are very lightweight and are wrapped with very narrow tires for minimum rolling resistance. While this configuration is perfect for the road and other smooth surfaces, don't expect to take this Baby Jogger out off-roading. If you plan on running on mixed terrain, be sure to take a look at the BOB SUS jogging stroller. The Performance 20" also features a large canopy to protect your child on long runs under the beating sun. Because this stroller isn't intended for rough terrain, don't expect any suspension.
Pros:
The hand activated V-Brake is awesome. It provided plenty of stopping power and straight tracking while doing so. This comes in handy (No Pun intended) when running down hill. One of the smoothest rides we've reviewed offered up by very smooth bearings, large wheels and lightweight aluminum frame. This is a top dog if you plan do a lot of running and want to focus on your pace and not the stroller you're pushing. Only 23lbs! Holds children up to 100lbs. Seat reclines.
Cons:
Don't try to maneuver in tight spaces, this is a purely a jogging/running stroller. The V-Brake can take some getting used to as its very responsive. The stroller folds big due to large wheels. Its best kept at home or toted around by a larger vehicle. Make sure to check out folded dimensions if you intend to transport in your vehicle. Basket size is very small and doesn't have a pouch to contain contents.
Conclusion:
For runners, the Baby Jogger Performance 20" single is at the top of its game. It doesn't try to be all things to all people, which is very refreshing.
